Hydra is expensive, and in winter it doesn’t seem set up for locals the way other Greek islands are. Dining out costs a lot and choices are limited, as are the bars. I only spent one night here, though I’d booked three, and left because the room quality didn’t justify the price. I didn’t meet Mike, who was in Athens. His daughter was nice, but I still didn’t feel welcome. The first room had a fridge full of black mould, so I asked to move. The next was brighter and better, but still not worth what I paid. You can’t leave the electricity on, so each time you return the room is freezing. The blanket hadn’t been washed and made me feel dirty. The shower was mouldy and smelly, and flooded the bathroom when I used it. The place just felt a bit tacky, so we moved on.

The location was great, with lively Hydra streets, restaurants, and bars right outside, and a nice little balcony. Micheal was kind and very helpful, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The room was quite small, so we couldn’t unpack both suitcases at once, and it felt a little dated, though that wasn’t too surprising for the price. The walls are thin, and we could hear our neighbors clearly. Since we spent most of our time out on the beach or walking around, the small room didn’t bother us much.

Mike made us feel at home from the start. The place was comfortable and well equipped, with fresh towels each day. It’s in a great spot if you want to be right in the centre of things. I’d definitely recommend it.

Michael was relaxed, friendly, and especially helpful when we had a medical emergency. He also knew plenty of nice places to visit and how to get to them. The room was clean and comfortable, with coffee, beach towels, and cleaning service, though the decor was a bit old and dated. We had a pleasant balcony over a lively street, and everyone at the hotel can use the rooftop terrace. It cost about €40 per person per night, including taxes. I was really happy with the service, price, cleanliness, and location, and would gladly stay here again on another trip to Hydra.

A lovely little hostel tucked into the old town, close to the port and in a perfect spot. The rooms are sweet and have what you need, and there’s a nice terrace too. Hope to come back!
