The location was convenient, and the staff were friendly. I felt welcome when I arrived, but there were several problems during my stay. There were no hallway lights, so I had to use my flashlight to find my way in the dark. My room was clean, though it smelled a little musty. The shower was lukewarm at best and mostly cold, and the towels were stiff. I also found the mattress a bit uncomfortable. After waking up with what looked like a bed bug bite, I noticed the breakfast didn’t seem to be replenished. Once the tour group staying there had eaten, there wasn’t much left. I wouldn’t stay again, though some improvements could raise the place’s review points.

We loved our six nights at the family run Ippokampos Hotel so much that we scrapped our plans and stayed five more nights ♥️. It’s not glamorous, but it’s comfortable, quirky and in an exceptional location. Toula, her sister (?), Kostas and Yiannis, many thanks 🙏🏼. Enjoy your Winter break, and hopefully there’ll be a toaster for our bread next time 😉! The gorgeous shared courtyard is where breakfast is served, and guests can use it any time, day or night. It’s also the only way to reach all the rooms. Hydra doesn’t feel unsafe, but if safety is a concern, the courtyard is locked after 10.00pm and you’ll have a key to get in. The rooms were roomy and clean, and the courtyard was lovely as soon as we arrived. Breakfast was really fresh, and when the choices were running low by the time I got there, they made me an omelette at home. One small thing to plan for: the water heater needs about ten minutes to heat the water before a shower. I’d happily stay again at this wonderful little hotel in the heart of Hydra.

I’ve been visiting Hydra for years, and was glad to discover this hotel. The room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was lovely, and the staff were very friendly. It was a perfect spot for my stay.
