Unique guest house

This was by far the worst experience I've had with a rented room. I'll stick to what happened and let people decide for themselves. The host hadn't contacted us about check-in, which started at 3:00 PM. At 1:00 PM he still hadn't called or messaged, and he didn't answer when I called. I told booking about it, then he showed up at the last minute and we checked in anyway. Our room was on the ground floor, with a private parking lot directly in front of the entrance. A dog in that area kept moving aggressively toward us whenever we tried to enter or leave. I had to call the host to come get it so we wouldn't end up in hospital with a bite. It happened when we were trying to find him for check-in and again when we returned from a meal in the afternoon. The next time we went out, the host happened to be outside washing his car, so there was no problem. We got back around 01:00 and went to rest. Despite our efforts to get the dog picked up during the day or shut the yard door, it was again right outside our door. The host said it wasn't his and was a stray, but it clearly seemed to be guarding its space. When it came at us again, I called him to come down and get it. He came down, moved toward me, and cursed at me vulgarly, as if it was absurd to expect to enter and leave the place I'd rented without being in danger. Then he told us to pack up and leave, so we did. His behavior was unacceptable throughout this, and toward another woman with her child too. They watched the scene and said the dog had nearly attacked them while they were passing through the neighbourhood earlier.
