The privacy and comfort were major problems throughout our stay. The landlords came to check on us every couple of hours, and it felt like we were being watched. Even though we’d paid for the whole house, inviting friends over was frowned upon, so we didn’t feel free to do much. There were no comfortable places to sit either, just a few metal chairs. We weren’t allowed to drink indoors, so we had to sit outside in winds of 40 km/h. The walk up to the property was exhausting too, with a steep, sharp climb to almost 200 metres above sea level. It felt isolated, especially in the heat. The basic facilities were poor. There were no proper blankets, the pillows were thin and uncomfortable, and there was no soap, cups, cutlery or iron. The AC was so noisy it could be heard from the next village, while the fridge barely kept things cold. The shower had weak pressure and wasn’t clean, the bathroom sink leaked, and there was no sink in the toilet, which felt inconvenient and unhygienic. There were safety and cleanliness concerns as well. The windows wouldn’t close properly, the toilet bin wasn’t changed regularly, and toilet paper couldn’t be flushed. One morning we woke up to toxic paint fumes because they chose to paint during our stay, which was careless. The elderly owners also threw out our belongings without warning, despite never telling us not to leave anything outside. This was a disappointing, chaotic and unwelcoming stay, and the accommodation didn’t meet basic expectations for a holiday rental. I’d suggest staying elsewhere if you want to enjoy your time in Ios.

The service was awful. One night, we were sitting on the terrace with our new neighbors, three Irish girls staying there, and three of their friends who lived elsewhere. They were making some noise by laughing, but there was no music. The owners told us to quiet down or leave, probably because we were the only ones who spoke Greek. In the end, we had to leave while the girls were allowed to stay. Our room was extremely cramped. The four-bed room had two bunk beds squeezed together, with barely enough space to walk between them. The bathroom was shared and outside the room. The so-called bathtub was just a shower head, with no curtain or shower walls, so water covered the floor and the bathroom was unhygienic and smelly. The sink was in our tiny room rather than the bathroom, and we didn’t get fresh towels during our five-night stay. It was a terrible experience. I’d spend a little more for a decent place, as this could ruin your holiday.

The balcony had a really nice view, and the place was very clean. It’s close to both the port and the city, with everything just a short distance away. Alex was friendly, always ready to help, and spent time socializing with us and the other guests, which was nice. I’d recommend him and would stay at Grandma Vasiliki again if I return to Ios. :)

Alex was a great host and shared helpful recommendations for beaches and sunset spots. We had a great stay at Grandma Vasiliki Rooms. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the building is in a safe neighborhood close to both the port and the old town. I’d definitely stay here again!

We had a lovely trip, and Alex was friendly and always willing to help. The place is basic, but it’s a good fit for people looking to have fun on the island. It has a lovely view and an interesting location between the port and the nightlife area.
