Hotel Metaxa

This will be our third year at Metaxa, and we can’t wait to go back. It’s a lovely family-run complex, with traditional, basic breakfast and a beautiful beach, restaurants and bars all close by. There’s usually room at the pool, and the area is cheap and cheerful. The owner has been accommodating when we needed changes on our last two stays. If you expect an all-inclusive, it may not suit you. We like exploring and spending with local businesses, and Munchies does the best gyros. The bus stop is about a five-minute walk if you don’t have a car.

The pool was lovely, but if you didn’t get there early, the same people had already claimed their spots. There was no hot water for two days, and the bars were never open. The comfy chairs were covered with old tele and throws. The owner was miserable, and the description and pictures need updating because they’re very deceiving.

We’ve been to Zante for over seven years, and I’d never advise anyone to stay here. I was so disappointed. They charge for hotel rooms, then put you in some random apartments that are absolutely stinking. If you’re a young couple looking for a nice hotel in Zante, this isn’t it. As a parent, I’d tell you to cancel if your child has booked it. There’s more information in the TripAdvisor review I posted. I honestly don’t understand how it has even got two stars. I agree with other reviews that it should be zero. Absolute con artist.

We had a nice two-week stay, and the room was clean and tidy. A few things let it down: there were no bathroom shelves, so we had to balance everything on the sink, no hooks for towels, no sink plug, and the taps ran really slowly. We spent lots of time at the nice pool. There wasn’t any background music, so I brought my speaker down; everyone thought it was nice to have some music. It’s a two-star hotel, and I’d stay again. Hope they make some improvements.
