We came to Kalamata in November to enjoy its food, not just the beach. The town is known in Greece as a major summer resort, but it has another appeal for food lovers. Kalamata olives are an indigenous variety, and I wanted to see the harvest and how they are extracted at a mill. The flats were a perfect base for exploring town and taking a short trip to the oliveyards, with a quiet setting and room to park the car. Our room was new and clean, and the family running the flats were kind and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our winter holiday, and after that first visit, returning for a summer stay has become a little dream of ours.

A spacious, bright WC adds to the value of this fresh, comfortable apartment. It's ideally placed at the city entrance, so getting onto the highway and reaching the best spots nearby is easy.

The beaches nearby were lovely, and we really enjoyed the food. The family was welcoming and followed all the anti-Covid measures. We had a wonderful stay at Kalamata flats and hope to come back.

The payment arrangement was off-putting: I booked four nights starting August 23 and was asked for a deposit of two, but when I arrived he went straight to the POS to take payment. The apartment itself was average in a building that looked about 20 years old, with no elevator. There was no shampoo or shower gel, and the towels were patterned beach towels. Both inside and outside seemed poorly maintained and unpainted. The kitchenette was small, and the cutlery wasn't something I wanted to use. It felt like a student apartment rented out for summer after the students had left. On the narrow street, I could see the terrace across from mine. There were two plastic stools instead of bedside tables. I wouldn't stay there again.

We paid as soon as we arrived, then left right away and had to find another room at the last minute. The area felt run-down, and the neighbor who opened the door warned us about the neighbors' strange parking behavior and said we couldn't use the parking lot because she didn't have the keys. There was also a sight near the room I can't even describe. The room was poor for the price, and the sheets and towels felt as if someone had just used them. We lost our money, and the owner claimed we'd supposedly canceled. It didn't feel like somewhere a person could stay.
