King Lodge

It was a quiet hotel in a spot very close to the city centre. The main issue was the shower: water flooded the whole bathroom and even ran out into the room.

The room was small but clean and nice, and even my boyfriend, who's almost 2 metres tall, had no trouble being comfortable. The staff were friendly and willing to help. Breakfast wasn't very good, though it seemed like breakfast wasn't a particularly important meal for Greeks in that area. I was a little worried after reading some bad reviews before we arrived, but the place was better than I expected. We paid for a comfortable room with air conditioning for the night while we explored Meteora, and that's what we got. It's in the countryside, so little ants may crawl around your things if you leave food out. The furniture is a bit old and it isn't fancy, but it's a great affordable place to stay.

We had to change rooms twice in less than 16 hours, which was a real inconvenience. The air conditioning stopped working overnight on a very hot night, so we barely slept. The next morning we were moved to a smaller room than the one we paid for, and an hour later its toilet stopped flushing, so we had to move again. Most of the time the Wi-Fi didn't work. Laundry was extremely expensive, and when we asked for a discount after all the room changes, the staff wouldn't offer one.

During our 15-day trip in Greece, this was the only hotel where we had to pay cash. We'd forgotten about that exception and hadn't brought many euros, since we expected to use a credit card for hotels and restaurants as usual. We asked to pay the €215 for two nights by card, but the receptionist rudely pointed out that the reservation slip said cash and told us to leave if we couldn't pay. It was Christmas, so where could we find another room? We could have booked a 5-star hotel with a card, but didn't want to carry a lot of cash abroad in case we lost it. €215 for two nights was also a rip-off. The room wasn't that great, though it was clean, and breakfast wasn't included. There's no lift to the 3rd floor, so we had to lug our heavy bags upstairs. Stay away if you can find somewhere else, like Farmissi or another 5-star hotel just down the road.
