Lion-Suites

We’ve been coming to Kalyves for 12 years, staying in several places and making lots of friends. This year we booked late because of circumstances, so our choices were limited. Lion Suites was one of the last places available and looked good online. Now we know why it was still available. The bathrooms are tiny, with nowhere to attach the shower head to the wall. The nearby main road is noisy much of the time, so sleeping with the door open isn’t an option. The place is very overpriced for its location and quality. We’ve found much better places for less in the past. The woman running it was the rudest person we’ve met on holiday. On our second day she gave our children a dustpan and brush and expected them to clean up a little sand left on the balcony by one of their toys, telling them not to do it again. She tutted and moaned at me when I asked to have a little time to get up before the one cleaning visit she wanted to make, as we were all still asleep. It felt like we weren’t allowed to be on holiday. After we got back, I read other reviews and saw we weren’t the only ones she’d treated like this. She certainly didn’t make us feel welcome. At the end of the stay she charged us €80 for air conditioning, although the booking said it was included. She didn’t even reduce the charge for the one very hot night when the power went out, and we got no apology for that. She gave me no choice but to pay, since she held my wife’s passport. Locals we know weren’t surprised when they heard where we’d stayed. Lesson learned, we’ll book earlier next year.

Clean, fresh and really welcoming. The beach and all the facilities are about 50 metres away, close enough to reach easily without being disturbed by them. What more could you need?

Good rooms close to the sea.

The owner is always available, and the apartment has all the essentials, including a smart TV for Netflix and free WiFi. Air conditioning costs extra. It’s clean and tidy, just steps from the sea. There’s a small balcony with a table, plus a terrace above the residence for all guests to share, with tables.
