We stayed for eight days, and the nearby beach was full of trash. The pool was dirty too, with other people’s clothes lying in it, and nobody seemed to care or clean things up. Inside, the house was dirty and every set of bed linen had stains. There were three beds but just one blanket. We asked several times before finally getting another one. Two beds were broken, noisy and unstable. When we told the owners, they said they couldn’t do anything because we’d already been there for two days. I also attached photos. The kitchen chairs were nearly broken as well. For what we paid, it really wasn’t worth it.

The setting is hard to beat, with direct access to the beach and only a short walk to shops, restaurants and the harbour. The pool area was lovely, and we all enjoyed using it. We had three apartments for our extended family on this, our third stay at the Marika: number 6, a two-bedroom place with three balconies, one facing the sea; number 7, also two bedrooms, with two balconies, one sea-facing; and number 3, a ground-floor studio with a sea view. The first two were on the first floor. All three worked for our needs. They’re a little dated, but functional and equipped for a self-catering holiday. We’ll be back. We booked through The Travel corner, based in KASSIOPI, and got first-class service and great communication.

Right by the beach, these basic apartments are clean, with a good kitchen and shower, a cute garden-view veranda and an on-site pool. Our apartment, No 1, was dark, though, and without a sofa there was nowhere comfortable to relax. Both veranda chairs were unusable because the rattan was completely broken. There was nobody to meet us, just our name on a piece of paper tacked to a door. Nobody had told us about that before check-in, so we had no idea what to do when we arrived. Luckily, a kind man from the apartments next door saw us looking around and offered to help.
