Michelangelo Resort Corfu

There were four pools to choose from and we could always find sun loungers. Most days we had the reception pool to ourselves. It’s a nice walk to Avlaki beach or into Kassiopi harbour. We stayed in block 4, where the rooms were modern and comfortable, with a small kitchenette and fridge. We were all-inclusive, and the food was tasty, with a selection available each time.

The entertainment was amazing. Jodie and Raphaelo were always organizing activities, from table tennis to water aerobics. They were energetic, lively and encouraging. The resort is a little run down and some areas need attention. Our room was modest and could use some work too. We saw more modern rooms and learned that they’re remodeling them one area at a time.

I didn’t book this place myself, the group I was with did, and we were stuck because getting anywhere was so expensive. Whoever booked for us hadn’t researched it properly. I take some blame too, since I should have looked into it and asked questions, but the trip turned out horribly. I strongly do not recommend this place. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, about an hour from the airport. We paid €100 for a taxi to the airport and €80 for the return trip. There’s a town area not far from the resort with shops and restaurants, and a beach not too far away, but that was about it. You can catch a bus into town from up the road, but we only found out after two days because when we asked questions, staff said they didn’t understand or speak English. The property had very little to do for somewhere advertised as all-inclusive. We later found out it was half board. We only got breakfast and dinner, with no lunch, and had to pay for all drinks except breakfast juice. The only restaurant open on the property was Mythos, which wasn’t hotel-owned. It was open only for dinner, though the food was pretty good. The bar had been closed for a couple of months. Wi-Fi only worked in the dining room, and they only took cash, no credit cards. There’s an ATM up the road. They choose your room for you. Our friends’ room had a bathroom sink leak that lifted the plywood and caused water damage. It took two days to move them to a different room. The bed felt like sleeping on a box spring, very uncomfortable. Towels were changed every two days and sheets every three. They don’t provide washcloths, but we’d brought our own after a friend who’d recently been to Greece told us that Europeans don’t usually provide them. Staff were rude and demeaning, apart from the woman working the 3pm-11pm shift, who was the only nice one.

The room door locks felt unsafe, and there were no locks on the pool toilets. The pool showers were ice cold, and both small pools were unbelievably dirty. The food was inedible. Reception managers were rude and demanded cash as soon as possible. The whole place felt like a prison, very old-fashioned and absolutely shocking. There are plenty of nicer hotels around.
