Guesthouse Vavitsas

The staff were really friendly, approachable, and accommodating. The location also makes it easy to get to the hiking routes and monastery roads. I liked the pool, though the rule against getting in with sun cream on your body seemed odd. The room could use a mini fridge, a kettle, and a shower head mounted higher up.

The pool was fantastic and free to use, while most of the campsite facilities were basic. The rest was pretty good, and the staff were helpful and nice. It’s in a great spot for an early walk to the monasteries. Make sure you take that walk, the scenery there is stunning.

I was glad I didn’t stay. When I first spoke with the owner, he started talking about how tired he was of tourists. Then I checked the room and found it smelled like a farm. A horrible experience.

We left as soon as we could the next morning. The pool was the reason we booked, but it was empty, and another guest was unhappy too and said they were leaving the following day. We’d heard that a local shopkeeper wanted to tell us about the place but seemed afraid to. A previous review also described the son getting aggressive with a family and the father attacking the wife, leaving tooth marks on her face. I can’t verify that account, but it added to how uncomfortable we felt. We were told on arrival that they only accepted cash, and were lucky we needed to go into town for dinner. The room was basic, with one bedside cabinet and no lamps, and the duvet cover on the bed made for a very uncomfortable night. At the bar, the son was absorbed in his phone and ignored us, so we went to a local tavern instead. The food there was great. Avoid this place.
