CEILING COLLAPSE, HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK, DO NOT STAY HERE I’d give this hotel zero stars if I could. I’ve never stayed somewhere worse than the Hermes. We thought it was a short walk to the beach, but getting to a nicer part means walking more than 20 minutes. Our room hadn’t been cleaned properly when we arrived, and the toilet was covered in bodily fluids. All the towels were dirty and stained. That isn’t because it’s a Greek hotel, as some reviews suggest. It’s because the staff didn’t care enough to clean. The biggest issue was the ceiling collapsing directly over our bed. I noticed a crack when we first arrived and thought nothing of it. I was horribly wrong. It happened in seconds, and we narrowly avoided being hurt. Please see the images I provided. Dust covered the room and our belongings. We had to throw some things away because no one knew what materials were in the ceiling or whether they could be harmful. We told the staff member at the bar, who called the owners. They were extremely hostile and acted like we were an inconvenience, shouting at us in Greek and getting angry when we contacted Jet2. The woman said this sort of thing happens and only let us move into the room next door for the night. When we asked to move to a different block, she said no one would clean it and we’d have to do it ourselves. The owners also refused to alert the people in the room upstairs, putting them at risk too. It was a horrific incident, handled with hostility, and it showed how little the owners care about their customers. I was also disgusted by how the staff and owners of the Hermes treated the cats living on the grounds. They got annoyed when people fed them and shooed them away. The cats are all starving and skinny, and it was awful to see them treated that way. Don’t stay at the Hermes or give them any of your hard-earned money. This place needs to be shut down.

I was able to spend less here, which left more for meals at the excellent restaurants around the Harbour. Maybe I should've saved enough for a super yacht to park beside the others in the bay! The hotel is clean and dependable, with lovely views and a big pool among the olive trees. Staff friendliness varied. You get what you pay for: newer comforts and beachside facilities are further down the hill in town, but cost quite a bit more.

We felt safe and included here as a same sex family with our eight year old. For the three of us, the week in the summer holidays cost about £1k including flights and transfers, so we thought it was very good value and would visit again for a good deal. You may be able to get a late checkout by asking. We paid 35 euro to keep the room until 6pm. The pool was nice, and there were always sun loungers available. The pool bar also has snacks and ice cream. Breakfast was basic but enough for a light start: bread, cereal, cheese, ham, olives, tomatoes, feta, yogurts, melon, tea and coffee from a machine. The location is great, and the Kefalos chat on Facebook has lots of recommendations for the area. Our family room was clean and spacious, though a little dated. The shower room was a bit of a nightmare: water from the shower flooded the floor, and it was very cold in the morning. In the evening, the shower was hot. We paid around £47 for air-conditioning for the week, and I think the tax was about £35. The cleaner was lovely and did a fantastic job every day. We arrived late on the Edinburgh flight and the friendly, polite barman met us, showed us to our room, and invited us to the bar, which stayed open until 2am. Everyone was very welcoming.

Rent a car or motorbike and you can explore the whole island, then come back to the lovely hotel pool. We spent a week here and enjoyed it all. The staff are very nice, and the price is convenient. I highly recommend staying here.

The rooms have amazing views, and the staff are so nice and helpful. The bed was too soft for my liking. The outdoor pool is a good size, though it's freshwater and cold, and the snack bar has limited choices. The hotel is on a hill, so it may not suit anyone with mobility issues. There are steep steps up to the rooms on the upper level.
