Chroma Suites

The Dulux suite is about 75 sqm, with its own office, and the hot tub is fun with a great caldera view. We visited in April and felt we got an absolute bargain for what we paid. Oia’s famous blue dome is right next door, while the castle and windmill are a 20-minute walk away. There’s a spacious kitchen with basic utensils, and the supermarket is 10 minutes on foot. Eating out in Oia gets very expensive. The location does mean people pass close by to take photos, so privacy isn’t complete. That seems part of being in Oia, with people taking pictures everywhere, so expect to say hello to neighbors. It can be noisy, and the Dulux suite is a bit cave-like, so don’t expect silence. One curious thing: the electricity wires in Oia run underground, and we sometimes heard sounds during the day, though nothing unbearable.

The front desk was very helpful, including carrying our luggage in and out. Our room was comfortable, the jacuzzi was nice, and we were right next door to Oia’s most photographed blue church. Even so, the place sits down a quieter path. Some of the reviews I read are crazy. Book it and don’t look back!

The location is ideal and the view really does look like the pictures, but you share that spot with everyone who comes by. We had very little privacy on the balcony, which seemed accessible to almost anyone. Chinese tourists were taking selfies around the place while we were in the outdoor jacuzzi. We went for our honeymoon last October and had booked a suite with a jetted tub and an incredible balcony view. The place was hard to find, and getting there without a hotel guide wasn’t easy. We wasted a lot of time searching. The reception was at a different hotel, where our guide offered us tap water. For this price, we expected more, and there was a serious lack of services. I can’t say other nearby hotels offer better value, and perhaps this is the best you can get for the money. Still, I think Santorini’s caldera view is overpriced. After enjoying the incredible sunset once or twice, we’ll probably just keep the memories and never visit again.

The suite was spacious, the kitchen was ready to use, and the bed was very comfortable. The terrace view might be the best anywhere in Oia. Our holiday was top notch, and this was probably the best place I’ve stayed on any vacation. Oia itself is beyond magical, of course. The hot tub can be cool or warmed up, depending on your preference. We asked caretaker Mike about it, since Oia’s terrace days are so warm. The staff were great: they helped with our luggage and gave us a phone to call the front desk directly, which is somewhere else. We didn’t need much extra service, but that could be handy for others. A couple of things to know: wifi and cell reception inside the suite were quite unstable, as it’s a cave house. Oia can feel like an overcrowded nightmare, and tourists passing the stairs to Chroma Suites take lots of photos with a direct view of the apartment terrace. I don’t think I can do the place justice with superlatives, so I’ll stop at five stars. We’ll probably come back, and not just once.
