Astron Hotel

For a three-star hotel, it’s not bad at all, and it’s right across from the port. There are lots of beggars nearby, so just be cautious. Otherwise, it’s okay.

There’s plenty to do nearby, and the location was great. The bar food was nice and the staff pleasant, but the rooms felt a little outdated. Breakfast didn’t offer much choice.

The hotel’s location is what makes it a good option. The place itself is very basic and quite worn, and breakfast was simple, without even proper bread. Reception staff seemed stiff and artificial, almost as though questions or requests about the rooms bothered them. We were there on 15 August, when Greece celebrates its second-largest feast, Panagia, sometimes called the Easter of summer. People gather at churches dedicated to the Virgin Mary. We wanted to attend the ceremony, but a receptionist seemed unfamiliar with what we meant when we asked. At a pharmacy, the staff were much more helpful and pointed us to a few nearby options. It all worked out, but a hotel reception should be able to offer useful information about local events. Poor.

The place was spotlessly clean, and the communal areas and staff were lovely. The pool with water jets was fabulous. Bedrooms and corridors are very basic, with old, poor decor, and really need upgrading.
