Kos Bay Hotel

For the price, it was fine as somewhere to sleep, but I wouldn't choose it again as a place to spend free time. Several beaches are within 5-10 minutes on foot, though I'd walk farther for nicer ones. Kos Town is about 20-30 minutes away, so you'll probably want a bike or other transport if you plan to go every day. The hotel is next to a busy road with traffic lights, and cars and buses are constantly stopping and starting. That's inconvenient, but it's known in advance. I was close to reception, yet the Wi-Fi still wasn't always reliable. The description mentions a bar, but I only saw a reception fridge selling water, beer, and soft drinks. The hotel is older, though everything worked fine. Breakfast was enough to start the day, but nothing special, and the staff were generally helpful, if a little short on friendliness. My small room had barely enough space for two large suitcases. I was alone but paid extra for the second bed, which felt more like one and a half beds than a double. Being beside reception meant I heard late arrivals at night, breakfast noise in the morning, and the common-area TV in the evening. It didn't bother me enough to complain, though I can see it disturbing other people. Since the room was on the ground floor, net curtains would've helped. Without them, I had to choose between keeping the blackout curtains shut and letting everyone see inside. On the plus side, it was cleaned daily, the AC worked perfectly, and reception could lend me a hairdryer. Reviews had left me unsure what to expect, but many seemed exaggerated or as if people expected too much from a two star hotel.

We arrived to a very rude front desk woman, who gave us no information about anything. The rest of the staff were rude too and didn't seem to make any effort to be nice. The price hadn't led us to expect much, but this still fell short. Breakfast was very basic, and when something ran out they didn't bring more. One morning there was no butter or cheese, and when we asked, staff were rude. The electricity was off for many hours, and the toilets wouldn't flush. We had to use a bucket of water to get anything down. I wouldn't visit this hotel again.

The room was roomy and fairly clean for this kind of hotel, with hot water and a nice view from both the room and dining room. I liked the style and atmosphere. Breakfast was pretty good, with enough choice even if it wasn't as extensive as a big hotel's. There were flies in the breakfast room, and some food, including yogurt, was left uncovered. The men on staff watched me struggle with my very large suitcase up the stairs and didn't help at all. As a woman, I found that especially rude, and it was the worst part. There was mold in the mini fridge too. I paid for a second night even though I left in the afternoon, and I should have been charged half since I didn't stay the whole night. The hotel is also close to the port.

The worst thing happened before checkout, at 9am, two hours before I was due to leave. Someone entered my room without knocking while I was lying naked in bed. I'm a solo female traveller. When I told the front desk man, he showed no empathy and said he was the only person there at the time, which made it even creepier. Earlier, the front desk agent couldn't manage to call a taxi, apparently because he was on a personal call. He wouldn't even get up from the couch to take my keys. The rooms are old and very minimal, but at that price I hadn't expected anything lavish.
