Theonia Hotel

This is not a queer-friendly place. Relatives staying at other hotels are apparently allowed to visit, but a same-sex friend of a paying guest was refused entry under the hotel policy. That feels discriminatory toward queer guests, and at best it appears to be discrimination allowed by law. Don’t stay here alone, at the very least. The room was basic, which can be fine for a centrally located hotel, but not all the lights worked and outlets were hard to find. I also paid the hotel tax but the receptionist refused to give me a receipt, so I’m worried I could be charged twice. Guests are required to leave their key at reception when going out. I used to see that as a safety measure, but now it feels more like a way for the owner to keep control. I’m also uneasy about leaving the room unattended under that policy.

The staff are always ready to answer questions and help, and the hotel stays quiet despite being near the city center. Its location is great, with the center a short distance away and parking nearby if you have a rental car. It’s rated two stars, but the service and cleanliness felt like a four-star hotel. I highly recommend it.

The room had plenty of storage and a nice balcony, though the electrical outlets were awkwardly placed. Bring long cables or portable chargers. The owner and staff were incredibly kind and helpful, always ready with travel, restaurant, and activity suggestions. Theonia Hotel is in a fantastic spot, just a few minutes’ walk from a supermarket, good restaurants, the beach, and the port. Given the price, location, and service, I’d definitely recommend it.

A lovely family-run hotel, with helpful, friendly staff and clean rooms with crisp white linen. The pool is great too. It’s right by the port town, and you can walk to everything. I’ll definitely stay here again.
