Olivia Apartments

We had a very disappointing stay. We’re Greek, and I can only wonder how foreign guests are treated. The woman responsible for the rooms was around only on the first day. After that, we’d ask for things and she seemed lost. It felt like everything was about money and there was no humanity. We were the only visitors, and the way we were treated was a joke. The owner even laughed at us in front of us. There were some good points: the rooms were generally clean and decent for the price, with a few things for cooking. The supermarket was a five minute walk away, and the supermarket and the most delicious gyros (pazarakia) were right next to us. The owner was generally polite. The place was one kilometer from the beach, and if you were lucky, one or two of the rooms on the top floor had a small balcony with a beautiful sea view. The public yard was cute. But during our four nights, nobody mentioned bringing fresh towels, and when they finally did, they were dirty. Gross. A new Greek restaurant shares an area with the first floor rooms, about 10 steps up. The owners shouted and dragged tables around all day, and it was even worse at night when the restaurant was crowded. There was no chance to relax because of the noise. We were supposed to have WiFi in our room, but when we asked the woman responsible, she said she’d arrange it. She never did, and we didn’t argue about it. The last two days, there were problems with the restaurant’s water supply. One night we came back to freezing cold water, and the next day, our last one, it was cold again after we returned from the beach. They said they had shut off the hot water to prepare it for the restaurant, but neither the restaurant nor the owner had told us. We were polite and didn’t want to complain. At 8 in the morning on our last day, restaurant workers came to fix the damage. The drills were so noisy they made us jump out of bed. The bed and mattress were very uncomfortable too. We finally decided to call the owner politely and tell him this was unacceptable. He apologized and said he didn’t know what to do, and in the end we felt sorry for him and said everything was okay. He offered us free coffee and breakfast at a coffee shop he owns, and to meet us there. When we’d earlier asked what the 7 euro breakfast included, we were told one sweet or savory bougatsa, one croissant, and one coffee or juice. We ordered two bougatsa and one coffee, and still paid 14 euros for what was supposed to be free, the least they could do after the inconvenience. Those items cost 5 euros. Even before our bus, we went back to say goodbye and paid another 2 euros for a cola. The problem wasn’t the payment itself, but the very bad gestures.
