Laganas Holidays Hotel

The service deserves way more than five stars. Reception was amazing, and we found the place pretty clean ourselves, despite what earlier reviews said. The location suited us too: close to the beach, restaurants, fast food and tourist spots, but far enough from the nightlife noise. Other parts of the island worked better for us, though. We could hear a lot through the walls. The family next door had a neglected child crying and screaming all day and night, loud enough to carry through half the hotel. The parents also spoke loudly on the phone all day and played music. I know the hotel couldn't have known what kind of guests were coming, but I still hoped someone would notice and do something, maybe call the police. It's something to keep in mind, because you could hear screaming from neighboring rooms if you're unlucky. There are no elevators, but the air conditioning worked well.

I'm grateful to hotel manager Alexandra for quickly transferring me here after my awful first night at the Laganas Beach Hotel, in the same group. The hygiene was better, and the location is great, though I understand that location accounts for a lot of the £80-a-night price. Still, the quality felt poor for the money, and I'd suggest paying a bit more for a more comfortable stay in Laganas. Both twin beds were so uncomfortable that the springs left me with pain in my side. One night I got up to flip an old mattress and found a brown stain on the other side. The furniture was shabby and dated, with rust outside the fridge. In the bathroom, water dripped from the ceiling above the toilet. The shower head wasn't attached to the wall, so you had to juggle it while washing, and there were roughly cut, gaping holes around the plumbing pipes. The hotel ad said there'd be a hairdryer, but there wasn't one. Doors also slam frequently, and management needs to address that.

The staff were really friendly, the reception was excellent, and the hospitality was even better. Thanks especially to Angela and Alex. I had a wonderful week here. The pool was big and clean, and the hotel is close to the sea and all the facilities. It was quiet enough to sleep peacefully, yet somehow lively at the same time. Thank you all.

Reception were helpful, and the harsh reviews don't match my experience. The room was basic, but that's only a problem if you're after something fancy. Check with reception before arriving that the air conditioning works.
