Portego Hotel

I got back a week ago after a stay, and honestly, it’s a good hotel. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. I left my phone there one day, and they kindly took it in and gave it back to me. The service is amazing. The location is a little far from the strip, but getting a taxi is easy enough, and for the price I’d definitely return. People saying the staff are rude must not have been respectful. They don’t mind if you come back late. The owner told us that was absolutely fine as long as we were quiet and respected the other guests, and then you’ll get that respect back. Simple as that, and I completely understand.

The staff were warm and friendly, and the hotel made a handy base for seeing the island. I was a little worried after reading some bad reviews, but my stay went well. The rooms are plain and could use some attention, though they were clean. Housekeeping came every day and there was a steady supply of fresh towels and bed linen. Breakfast was a basic buffet with things like cheese, meat, eggs, toast, cereal and pastries.

I was personally fine with the hotel, but the owners were rude to us. They insulted us and accused us of making noise late at night. They seemed to be acting irrationally, and wouldn't speak English with us, so we couldn't understand what they were saying. It wouldn't take much for the owners to treat guests better. And don't call any of your customers jerk.

We booked a studio but were given a two-bedroom apartment, and the hotel wasn't crowded. We stayed for seven nights from September 20 and have already booked again for next year. The cleaning lady came every day and was friendly, the bed was comfortable, and the pool was a good size and clean. The manager was a nice guy and handled some really terrible British guests diplomatically. We didn't eat there because we like trying different places each day, though the latte was very nice and cheap. It's a bit far from everything, so you'll need a car or motorbike. I can highly recommend Autoway, a family-run car rental business.
