Cosmopolis Crete Suites

The rooms are lovely, and the view from them is excellent.

We loved spending time on the roof terrace sunbeds, and the balcony was a nice spot for an evening drink and people-watching. There was a lively feel around us throughout the day, but it never bothered us, even at the end of September. Our Bronze Suite had a comfortable bed, a good shower, and a well-equipped kitchen with an oven, microwave, kettle, two-zone hob, cooking utensils, cutlery, and crockery. The only downside was that the bins weren’t emptied every day. We had brought plenty of plastic bags and there were waste containers behind the parking lot, but we shouldn’t have needed to manage it ourselves. We had a wonderful stay.

We left after two nights instead of the four we had booked. We couldn’t sleep at all, were exhausted during the day, and had to find somewhere else to stay for the rest of the trip, so we effectively paid twice. The full amount was kept, including the environmental fee, despite the apartment not being cheap in peak season. No apology came, and while they said they had tried to do something about the noise, that was apparently all they could do. Leaving was our decision, but some fair compensation would have been appreciated. The first night was awful. The party crowd outside sounded as if it was moving through the bedroom and living room until shortly after 6 a.m. The next night was just as noisy until nearly 7. In the morning we were met with smells of urine and vomit while having coffee, even though the bar owners washed the promenade with chlorine and water. The owner can’t be blamed for those smells, of course, but the listing should be clearer about the bars, clubs, and people partying outside at night, and about the lack of effective soundproofing. The Wooden Suite looked exactly like the website photos. It was clean, modern, and in excellent, nearly new condition. Check-in itself was quick and friendly, once it happened. We had arranged to meet someone at 3 p.m., but nobody came, and our calls and messages got no reply. A woman from the bar next door eventually opened the door and told us to leave our suitcases inside and wait with a drink. We thought she was connected to Cosmopolis Suite and that the drinks were offered while we waited. Someone finally arrived on a scooter and handed us a phone number for questions. When we returned downstairs, the bar woman said to take the drinks up, then knocked on our door about twenty minutes later to collect a very high charge. We had half suspected there might be a catch because the drink menus were in the suite. Perhaps the landlord and bar owner work together or are part of the same business, but they should have explained that. It left a bad impression, especially since the bar was almost empty throughout our stay. We knew the apartment was on a busy promenade where people party, and we chose it because the photos looked good and the description emphasized soundproofing. We didn’t want to depend on a car. If you’re there to party and won’t be in bed before 6 a.m., the location puts you right in the middle of it. I wouldn’t recommend it for families with children or for people wanting to sleep while staying near the promenade. I’m giving two stars only because the apartment was clean and matched its photos. This is a family’s review, not a partygoer’s, and it isn’t about the amenities or the owner personally. We paid a lot for a nice place and got no rest or enjoyment from it. Such a shame.

The room was fantastic, with a wonderful view, and it was very clean. The owners were also really helpful.
