Aegean Sky was just what its description promised: a beautiful, authentic Greek building with a family feel that made us feel included. We travel everywhere, from third world places to five-star-plus hotels, and had a fantastic holiday here. First, many thanks to Panos, Joseph, and all his family. The room was spotless, the beds were really comfortable, and we slept well. We were self-catering, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The shower was great after a sunny day. The bar was reasonably priced, with fantastic staff who made us feel welcome, and the food was great too. There was no trouble finding a sunbed, and the pool area had a great atmosphere. The hotel welcomes groups of all sizes. We brought my 80-year-old mum, and she loved the atmosphere. The staff couldn't do enough for her. We needed a wheelchair and had one within minutes at a good price. We can't thank them enough. They hold a barbecue night with traditional Greek dancing, and we joined in twice and loved it. The strip, with its shops, restaurants, clubs, and mini golf, is a short walk away, and the old town is beautiful. Would we return? Definitely.

The room was dated and in the basement, with hardly any sunlight. It wasn't cleaned during my stay, and maintenance people barged in several times without knocking while I was in bed with no clothes on. The air conditioning didn't work, and it was an extra charge. I arrived in the early hours, and manager Joseph pushed me to pay cash there and then for a supposed discount on air conditioning and WiFi, even though I said I'd rather decide in the morning. The smiles, handshakes, and talk of being part of the family felt fake. It seemed like they charged little to get you through the door and then tried to squeeze every penny out of you. From the photos the place looked okay, but in reality it was a complete dump. I was unwell and sick on the floor and sheets on a Sunday, when there were no cleaning facilities available. Joseph lent me a mop and cleaning chemicals. As he instructed, I cleaned the floor and put the sheets out to be washed. I spent hours making the room spotless, and he gave me clean sheets. The next day I went on a trip. When I returned, the sheets were gone. At reception, the manager told me they had been taken because I owed a 300 euro cleaning charge for 'bio hazard cleaning.' I had cleaned the room myself, and when I asked what the charge was for, he said they had to replace the sheets. What sheets cost 300 euros, are they silk? He offered to let me meet the owner, but by then I felt unwelcome and disrespected, so I moved to another hotel and ended my holiday with them. I've never had a hotel hold my sheets for ransom over 300 euros. Absolute crooks. I guess you get what you pay for, but this will be my last budget hotel. I'd rather spend a thousand pounds more to stay somewhere else. You couldn't pay me a thousand pounds to stay there again. And before you reply telling me to be more specific in future reviews, I have been specific, and this is 100% the truth. You should be ashamed of yourself. Well done, ' The Agean Sky Team' Yours truly, Barney

I'd read the reviews the day before arriving and was a little nervous, but after a week here I had an amazing stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, it wasn't too busy, and the prices weren't bad. Air conditioning and the lock box cost extra, but they're optional.

The clean towels and daily room cleaning were good, except on Sundays, and the showers had good hot water. Bedding was clean and changed weekly. The advertised extras didn't come with prices listed: air conditioning was €70 per week, the safe deposit box €35 per week, and WiFi €35 per week. Keeping the room after the 11am checkout cost €5 an hour. I also found the €1 card payment charge at the bar hard to accept, as I understand that to be illegal under the EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2). The self-catering setup was below standard. Our Promo Room was advertised as having a fully equipped kitchenette, but it had only a two-ring camping hot plate, one large pot, and one frying pan. We expected at least a toaster, but were told we'd need to pay more to upgrade. We asked the manager for a bread knife, cutting board, and two smaller pots. The knife was refused outright on health and safety grounds. I'm a chef with 40 years' experience and know how to use a knife, but that didn't matter. I was told I could have the board and pots, but only the board arrived, three days later. There were also safety issues. The electric kettle turned on but had to be switched off manually. One patio door had no handle and wouldn't open. A ledge about two inches high at the bathroom entrance was a trip hazard, with the glass shower screen right in front of it. The bathroom sink was next to the kitchen sink, and the electric hairdryer and its cord were positioned just above the sink. That was also the only food prep area. Electricity and water don't mix. Given all that, we chose not to spend money on the overpriced extras and instead spent our time and money at a more accommodating hotel. We had to leave our room at 11am, although our pickup was late in the evening. Luggage could be left in an unsecured room used by people accessing the ladies' and gents' toilets for the pool, bar, and restaurant. Disclaimer notices were posted. Was it what I expected? No, though it might have been in the 1970s.

The room was well maintained, and having a balcony was a nice bonus. The hotel is in a great spot between the old town and the strip.
