Arkadi Apartments

We had a great stay, and the owners were incredibly nice and always around to help. The hotel is right at the end of the street, close to the old Town Malia, so the street noise wasn’t loud at all. The rooms have what you need, including a small kitchen with a fridge and freezer, aircondition, and a bathroom with a shower. The beds are a bit hard, but that didn’t bother me.

The hotel has a lovely pool that was never crowded, and free Wi-Fi in the lobby. There are two excellent, relatively inexpensive restaurants right next door, plus some very expensive supermarkets just a few meters away. You can also get to the old town easily, where there’s a cheaper supermarket. The beach is a 7-10 minute walk. We stayed for 10 days. The hotel is small, but the owners’ warm welcome made us feel comfortable, and they were always courteous and helpful. Our room was small too. It was very clean at first, but wasn’t cleaned properly during the rest of our stay, and the towels and bedding were changed only once. There was just one electrical outlet in the apartment, so I’d bring a power strip. Each room has a small terrace. In Malia, the location is convenient for an evening at a bar or nightclub because the hotel is practically on the main street. The downside is that a cocktail bar across the street played loud music until about 3 a.m. We were satisfied overall, especially with the owners. They clearly cared about the hotel and their guests. I think it’s less suitable for families with small children, but young people, including those on a party trip, would find it suitable and I’d recommend it to them.

The sea isn’t conveniently close, which is what we came for, though there is a pool. For a 1-star hotel, that’s great.
