My room had plenty of space and natural light. Jenny was a great host, really helpful and full of suggestions for beaches, restaurants and museums. If you get the upstairs room, watch your step on the steep stone stairs.

The pounti seating area in the Merovigli apartment is so cozy and unusual that climbing the roughly 15 steep, original stone steps to reach it felt worth it. The apartments are beautifully restored and tucked away in a quiet spot. Jenny and her Mum are the icing on the cake, kind and professional hosts whose hard work deserves all the success. They’ll stay in our hearts and minds. If we return to Mesta, we wouldn’t even think of staying elsewhere. We loved everything about our time at Mesta Mastic. The village and surrounding area are unique, authentic and a must visit if you’re in Chios.

We felt calm and cut off from the city’s hustle and bustle, even with free Wi-Fi available. The host was friendly, shared stories about local life and history, and gave us tips and guides for the whole Chios island. You can tell a lot of care and investment has gone into the place. Just be careful not to get lost in the fortress.

Mesta is one of Chios’s iconic spots, a castle laid out like a maze and definitely worth visiting. There’s an alley in the middle of the village where you can grab a bite or a drink.
