A simple, inexpensive hotel with clean, no-frills rooms. It’s handy for a stopover, especially if you’re not picky. The location is great, close to the causeway to Monemvasia. We picked up breakfast downstairs and ate it on the balcony, looking out at the lovely sea view.

I loved sitting on the balcony with wine and my writing after the climb up to the fortress and dinner overlooking the ocean. The views are great, and the hotel is right on the port. There’s lots of parking nearby, and you can walk to shops, restaurants, and all the historical sites across the bridge. This has been my favorite place in Greece so far. The downsides are that people smoke inside the bar downstairs, as they do inside everywhere in Greece, and the beds are hard, which also seems common there. For the price, Aktaion Hotel is hard to beat.

I had a good stay and would definitely visit again. The place was really clean, the breakfast was lovely, and the people were very friendly. It’s in a nice central spot with a sea view. While it isn’t inside the castle town, it’s very close, about a 10-15 minute walk, or you can take the local bus from right outside the hotel door.

Basic, comfortable budget rooms with balconies, right beside the bus arrival point from Sparta. The location next to the causeway is perfect, and it’s about a 15 minute walk to Monemvasia. The restaurant is pretty average, but there are plenty of great places to eat in the nearby harbour or ancient city.
