We were stopping on a cruise and hoped to make a quick trip to a beach, but the bus station was chaotic. Buses weren’t on schedule and there was very little information. It ended up being a waste of time, since we had to head back.

The buses are clean and well maintained, and there’s a ticket booth, though if you’re running late you can buy a ticket from the driver. This is the central bus station in Mykonos old town, with routes to most beaches and beach resorts. In general, buses come every 30 minutes. Some routes, including Platis Gialos, run all night until 4 o’clock every day.

My cousin and I booked an apartment, but on arrival we were given a room in an apartment shared with an old man. Nobody had told us this beforehand. The driver had mentioned they might upgrade us to a place with a jacuzzi, which made the eventual arrangement even more confusing. The person in charge, the one with tall hair, was awful to deal with and seemed lazy, confused, and upset. Whenever we asked something, he’d say, “Give me 5 minutes.” His communication and customer service were terrible. There are plenty of other respectful hotels, rooms, and apartments in the area. Don’t bother with this place.

The bus system can save you a lot getting around Mykonos, but the way it’s run feels terrible and like a scam. If you have a return ticket for the Paradise bus, watch the older driver who smokes. He may try to take both tickets, so only show him one. He also seems to take advantage of people who don’t speak Greek. I speak Greek, and that’s what I’m saying. Late buses can be hard to board too, as they’re packed with drunk teenagers pushing and shoving. Very disappointing.
