The Architect's Cave House

The host was kind and did their best to make us comfortable, and the view across Santorini's white and blue buildings was incredible. The accommodation is right in the middle of Oia, too. We did have a couple of problems: flies were everywhere and a real nuisance, so I had to kill a lot of them myself. One rainy night also left the whole house flooded. Still, I'd book it for those views.

Elizabeth was the standout for us. She went out of her way to make things easy, arranged our port pickup, and even came along with the driver when our ferry was delayed and arrived at 6:30 am. She also found restaurants open in March and set up two winery tours. Mateo deserves thanks too for carrying our bags up and down the stairs. The patio view is fantastic, and the house is right in the center of town. Inside, it's spacious for a cave house and matches the photos, with two queen beds. One bedroom is a good size, the other small. The bathroom has one sink and a lovely rain shower. The large tub isn't really a jacuzzi, takes three rounds of hot water to fill, and its jets are weak. That was our one disappointment, though they installed a larger water heater while we were there. The kitchen is cramped and could use more equipment, but works fine. There's a big TV in the living room; the couch isn't very comfortable, though it could serve as a single bed. Just know the stairs down to the house are very steep, so it may not suit anyone with mobility issues. I'd stay here again.

Elizabeth was wonderful. My wife and I had the most beautiful holiday of our lives staying at Menias Cave. We'll come back.

We first booked the apartment in 2020, when the pandemic made our trip impossible. Booking.com listed the reservation as non-refundable, but the host kindly offered us a voucher, which saved us from losing the money. We were finally able to holiday in Greece and stay here in 2021. The host was lovely, and the view was the best ever!
