Akrathos Beach Hotel

My Mum, my brother and I stayed for a week and had such an amazing time. It felt like spending time with your Greek family. The animation team, Tomie and Maria, kept the good vibes going and organised everything so guests could have a good time. Everyone was kind, helpful and welcoming, including the waiters and waitresses, especially Eduardo. 10/10.

The biggest problem for me was accessibility. I have a lung condition, and the steps and slopes were very difficult. I couldn't get to the beach because I wouldn't have managed the very steep way back up. The hotel isn't disability friendly, and neither its website nor the travel companies' site mentioned that. Sadly, I wouldn't return. The view is amazing and the hotel was very clean. I arrived late to find a sandwich and bottle of water in my room, which was a nice touch. The restaurant is a buffet, including tea and coffee from a machine. Staff worked efficiently, but sometimes cleared plates before I'd finished chewing. The food was okay with lots of choice, and the desserts were gorgeous. They call it show cooking, but in my experience elsewhere that means making omelettes for breakfast and different meats in the evening. Here, it mostly meant refilling buffet dishes. One night they served gyros, which I only noticed by chance. I was all inclusive and only drink water during the day. It came in the smallest plastic cups, like all the drinks. At the pool bar, one staff member could see from my wristband that I was AI, but rudely told me I could only be served at the end of the bar. There is just one toilet for the whole hotel, including the pool. From the pool you have to go up stairs or a slope, through the bar and down a corridor. From the restaurant, it's downstairs to that same toilet.

The family activities were so much fun, the meals were incredible, and the views were stunning. We loved the location too. The room and bathroom were pretty small for a family, but all the good parts outweighed that.

That view is absolutely breathtaking, and the beach attached to the hotel is gorgeous. The beach has no toilets, though, and only basic drinks like soft drinks, wine, or beer. Food there costs extra. There's a small supermarket on site for essentials. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around it. One nearby town is about a 5-minute taxi ride, around £10 each way. Another option is farther in the opposite direction and costs £25 each way, so it's hard to go often. Staff were lovely and accommodating, but the hotel was very quiet and boring. I'd give it 3 stars at a push. Hiring a boat was the highlight of our holiday. It cost around £140 for the day, and exploring the islands opposite was amazing. The all-inclusive food got boring and repetitive. Reviews had hyped it up, so I expected more, but by day two I was bored. No snacks are included outside restaurant hours, which is hard with children. Even an ice cream freezer by the pool bar would help. Cakes come out at the pool bar between 4-5pm, but they're usually leftover, dry ones from earlier service. The iced coffees there are incredible, though each costs £5.50. Our standard double room was very small and looked nothing like the advertised photos. I wouldn't choose this room type if travelling with children. After we complained, we eventually got upgraded to a gorgeous room. Still, we dealt with ants all week, which didn't give a good impression of cleanliness. We spoke with around 5-6 other groups during our stay, and they were all disappointed with similar complaints. The lack of things to do wears off quickly.
