The house is spacious, has good AC, and comes with all the appliances you could wish for. Breakfast at the wall is perfect, as the pictures show. George was a big help, from sorting out where to park to carrying our luggage. It’s close enough to the action to get around easily, but far enough away to stay quiet and relaxed. Fantastic place.

We spent a lot of time relaxing in the garden, looking out to sea and watching the world go by. There are two chairs and a table, plus four log seats, with wildflowers, bees and butterflies filling the garden when we visited. From there, the sunset view is high up and unobstructed. The front looks over the town and the Fortezza, with snow-capped mountains in the distance, so the table and chairs outside are a lovely spot for sunrise too. Casa Di Maria is right beside the ancient walls of the Venetian Fortezza, and staying there made us feel connected to the area’s heritage. We visited at the end of April 2026, and the history was a real draw. The main bedroom is a good size, with a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The kitchen has what you need to cook for yourself. We had a hire car, and George met us when we arrived to guide us into the parking area, which was a big help. You can also manage without a car if you’re mainly here to relax and enjoy Cretan hospitality. Bars, restaurants and attractions are within walking distance, and there are local buses, including a very good hop-on hop-off bus that goes around town and up into the hills. It’s a short walk to the busy old town, with its shops, tavernas and historic streets. There’s also a well-stocked supermarket nearby that stays open late, which was convenient. We loved our stay and would happily return. Casa Di Maria is a wonderful base for history, views, comfort and easy access to what Rethymno has to offer.

The apartment is beautiful overall, and there’s private parking. I’d pay more attention to the bathroom and garden, though. Its setting beside the Venetian fortress is spectacular, with a rock garden looking out over the sea. The owner was extremely kind, helpful, attentive and dedicated to guests. We were very pleased with our choice, and I’d definitely recommend it.

George was wonderfully helpful, and the apartment was cozy and clean. The backyard views are incredibly stunning. This is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind place and definitely worth renting. Highly recommend 👍🏼
