Abeliona Retreat

The restaurant at Abeliona Retreat has generous portions of local dishes at very good prices. We had a lot of rain and missed some of what we’d hoped to see, but that’s given us a reason to return. The nature around the retreat looks like a painting, and I’d love to visit in spring. It’s a wonderful spot for families or couples, with great rooms and outstanding cleanliness. Mrs Bia was warm and helpful with everything, and Mr Frank was pleasant and professional. Abeliona Retreat has earned our trust.

The rooms are huge and luxurious, with a good, modern shower, and the hotel restaurant is good too. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The place itself is stunning, set in nature in a village that feels like it belongs to another time. Traditional architecture gives way to modern comforts inside. The welcome was warm, and the staff were efficient, courteous and professional, doing all they could to make guests comfortable. Thanks, Frank.

There were bugs in the rooms, and we couldn’t find anywhere to park, despite the listing saying parking was easy. Someone was smoking indoors and the staff didn’t say anything, even though smoking inside is illegal in Greece. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The food was good, but we left a day early. We came hoping to relax and do yoga, and there wasn’t any yoga on offer, which made me wonder how this can be called a retreat. The owner/manager wasn’t very friendly. When I tried to talk with her about the lack of yoga and coffee, she wouldn’t engage and walked away. She also refused to make us coffee even though the bar was open. The coffee machine in our room was filthy, like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. If the place is open in the shoulder season, I’d expect the same service. Also, the road there is awful.
