Avra Hotel

The recent renovation has changed the place so much that its current star rating no longer reflects the condition. As it is now, I think it deserves a higher rating.

We liked the renovated rooms, and the location is excellent, just a few minutes on foot from the beach and restaurants. Still, the stay had some serious problems. Our reservation for 2 double and 3 triple rooms wasn’t honored, so we had to accept extra beds in double rooms. The staff eventually adjusted the price and gave us a discount, which seemed fair. Cleaning was below expectations too, only twice during 8 nights, and parking is very limited. The worst part was one receptionist’s behavior on our last evening. Around 6 PM, not during quiet hours, he knocked very aggressively and spoke rudely, almost hostilely, because our 2.5-year-old was crying. That was unacceptable and unprofessional. Children are part of family holidays, and staff should respond with patience and respect. With better service and staff training, this hotel could be a great choice.

It’s under construction for a few more days, unfortunately, but once that’s done it should be a quiet, lovely hotel with a perfect location and view. There’s a top pizza and burger place nearby. Really recommend it.

The double room was a serious safety risk. When I plugged my charger into the extension box they’d provided, it popped, exploded, and started smoking. A repair person had to stay with us all night trying to fix it. I was shocked by how little concern the manager showed, since someone could have been badly hurt. We stayed last summer and had booked both a double and a triple room. The double was also tiny and unbearably hot. When we complained, staff said we’d booked “their worst room.” If so, why offer it to guests? I strongly recommend avoiding this place. Safety and customer care shouldn’t be optional.
