Hotel Corfu Andromeda

The beaches you can reach on foot were small and intimate, with clear, warm water in early September. Our room had great water pressure, but the beds were a problem: one mattress was badly broken and the other was barely holding up. The AC and fridge were quite noisy, too. We stayed seven nights and got no fresh towels or room cleaning at all. Breakfast meant choosing one item from six: fruit salad, omelette, ham and cheese sandwich, boiled egg, Greek yogurt, and one other option. The bread was great, with butter, jam and honey tucked under it in the basket. The two waiters looked very sour while serving, though the manager and bartender were kind and easy to approach.

It’s a quiet spot, set about 200 meters from the main road and the same distance back to the beach, with Benetses beach town only minutes away. The small hotel sits between the sea and mountains, with views of both. There’s no luxury or anything especially outstanding, but I felt comfortable here. It has what I needed: a comfy bed, clean room, pool, breakfast, and very friendly owners. The place also has a cozy, nostalgic hippie-era feel.

The place itself is beautiful, but it’s very far from everything. I was excited to stay at Andromeda, since I usually travel solo and like meeting people. The welcome was warm, but the management’s behavior turned personal and very unprofessional, and I felt they took advantage of solo travelers. The waitress worked hard, but sweat from her hair dripping straight onto my plate was unforgivable. The food had no flavor; breakfast was awful and extremely oily, with no spice or taste. The room smelled of mold, and the air conditioning seemed not to have been cleaned in years. It was very loud. Water backed up in the bathroom, there was no working hot water, and the broken kitchen tap sent water everywhere except into the sink. The microwave didn’t work either. Altogether, a horrible experience.

The garden and pool area outside were nice, and the staff were friendly with good service and breakfast. The room was the letdown: mold on the bathroom ceiling, a bath door that wouldn’t shut properly, and sheets that smelled. The kitchen furniture was rusty.
