The coast walk to Petra takes around 25-30 minutes, though the dry seaweed underfoot makes it a bit squishy, so leave the heels at home. There’s also a climb back up from the pool to the room, which felt fair after all that food. We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment that worked well for two adults and up to two teenagers, if you can get them off their devices and into the sunshine. The rooms were spotless, with towels and bedding changed every 2-3 days. We liked having sunbeds and parasols available every day without getting up early to claim them. Breakfast and lunch were generous enough to tempt even a sleepy teenager out of bed. We did ask for an extra key so ours could keep sleeping without locking us out. Little Bird Hotel is clean, relaxed, and thoughtfully run, with a pool that’s hard to leave. The managers and staff were genuinely friendly and ready to help, whether with restaurant suggestions or another Mythos by the pool. For food nearby, Caravan by the Sea is about a two-minute walk and good for sunset dinner by the water. Avalaki is five minutes away, with great taverna food and especially good grilled octopus. The Woman’s Cooperative of Petra is around a 30-minute walk, full of local character, and had the best baklava we tried. Book all three at least two days ahead. Lesvos Boat Trips can pick you up from Petra Harbour for an evening cruise into the sunset. If you have a car, the Roman viaduct and Olive Oil Museum are worth a look too. Little Bird Hotel is a real hidden gem, though maybe don’t tell everyone.
