Hotel Lux

We had no staff there when we arrived at 4am, though they had emailed entry instructions, or when we left at 9am. That seemed odd. The room was adequate for our purpose, a quick five-hour rest before heading to the islands, but sleep wasn’t an option because of the incredibly noisy music bar next door. The room vibrated until the music stopped around 5.30am. The bar is completely open-fronted, so I imagine people at least 100 metres away are affected too. I can’t understand how the local police allow that racket. I know the bar noise isn’t the hotel owner’s fault, but nearby hotels surely have a duty to get this sound abuse stopped or at least reduced. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked fine. The toilet and shower are side by side, so water splashes over. I do want to mention the noise because we make this trip at least twice a year, and next time we’ll be much more careful choosing a hotel.

It’s in a great spot, about a 5-minute walk from the port, and communication with staff was very good. They tried to accommodate guest requests. My room was small but had everything I needed for a business trip: a comfortable bed, table, chairs, working WiFi, and a fridge. The cozy bathroom had several towels and a hot shower. Under the new management, the place was clean, with no dirt or annoying insects anywhere. The cleanliness standard was high, and it was the best price per night in Pireas.

The beds were uncomfortable, the bathrooms dirty, the shower drained poorly, and the sheets irritated my skin the next day. On top of that, you won’t sleep here. There’s a nightclub next door that stays open until 6 AM, even on weekdays, and music and vibrations came right through the room. Earplugs and noise-cancelling headphones didn’t block it. The hotel is close to the ferry port, which is convenient for catching a boat to the islands, but I’d tell people to save themselves the headache and stay elsewhere. I’m giving one star for service because I arrived after reception had left for the night and left before staff came in the morning. I believe reception is only staffed from 9 AM to 10 PM, so you need to arrange the entry code with the hotel if you’re arriving outside those hours.

The room was unbearably hot because the AC didn’t work at all. The person in charge replied to our message in the middle of the night by telling us to find another hotel, even though we had a child with us. Mosquitoes bit my son badly, leaving marks and causing him extreme pain. I couldn’t sleep the whole night because clubs down the road played loud music until 5 am. Pathetic hotel and service.
