Filotimo Cave Houses

We had the second room on the right, and it was clean and pleasant. The dryer was very loud, and one of the fans was noisy too. The bathroom plumbing wasn’t working properly: the shower flooded completely, and there was an awful smell coming from the drains. There wasn’t any bottled water in the fridge or shower gel and shampoo in the bathrooms. For the amenities provided, I think it’s very expensive.

The location is fantastic, and the view is just as good!

Sleeping in the old vaulted cellars was lovely, and the village itself is beautiful. The restaurant included in the package served delicious food, though it was too far away. Getting there can be tricky: there’s no clear signage, people don’t seem to know the place, and it isn’t a hotel despite what some websites say. Arrive during daylight and bring a phone. Also bring bottled water, since none is available at reception and, as across the island, the tap water isn’t drinkable. For the price, the accommodation felt a bit spartan. In November the sheets were damp and the heating wasn’t adequate. The kitchen was described as fully equipped, but it had too few utensils and they were old.

It’s away from the crowds and well located, but hard to find because there’s no street name. We arrived late and there wasn’t even a bottle of water, which was a problem since we had a medicine dispenser. The water isn’t potable. The bedding was hard, though clean. In the kitchenette, three appliances had to share one electrical outlet, and the shower area really needs a thorough clean, maybe with a little bleach. Above the place, a group of young people are staying in a ruin. They held a couple of short parties, about two hours each, but they were especially noisy.
