We booked the room back in April and were told to wait until after 1300 on arrival day because a couple had been using it for a whole month. After walking 25 steps to get there, we found mosquitoes all over the floor and the bedsheets. We told the manager it wasn’t fit for guests, and she replied, “well I cleaned for 4 hours, if you don’t like it you can go”. The drain outside smelled awful, the fridge was leaking, and parking was inconvenient. When we asked about the fridge, we were told to turn up the temperature because the manager was four hours away and we’d have to wait until the next day. The way we were treated for asking for a clean room was unbelievably rude.

I booked the hotel for my mother, and Smaragdi, the owner, made her stay lovely. She was so friendly and accommodating, bought my mother a souvlaki from downstairs on the first night, and made Greek coffee to share with her the next morning. The rooms are spacious and nicely done, with large beds and other good amenities. Even though there are several loud restaurants right below the hotel, you can’t hear a thing at night. The thick stone walls keep the rooms completely quiet.

A one-of-a-kind vintage place with a wonderful host, right in the heart of Rethymno. It’s fully equipped, with restaurants and beaches close by, and the view is amazing. We’ll definitely come back!

For this price, I expected more. The stairs are very steep, street noise comes in, and there are unpleasant smells from both the drains and the restaurant next door. Parking is a nightmare, and we had trouble with hot water and cleaning. There are better places at the same price. I wouldn't recommend it.

Smaragdi boutique hotel was the best boutique stay in town for us. The room was really clean, and the modern look with vintage touches worked so well. Ms. Smaragdi helped us with whatever we needed, and we had a great time. Thanks so much! ❤❤
