Doryssa Seaside Resort

There's an old Greek village recreation alongside the main hotel, with individual rooms in buildings of many styles and a 'village square'. The main hotel has the usual Mediterranean resort feel, with room blocks grouped around the main and children's pools. Five restaurants are available, including the main hotel restaurant for full-board guests, as well as a pool bar. Service is good in most areas, though the pool/beach bar can be patchy or off-hand at times. There's also an on-site shop with most holiday essentials, and prices, for example for wine, are competitive with town. The setup works cleverly for a range of holidaymakers.

It's a lovely setting and the helpful, friendly staff make it easy to get around, with a taxi to pythagario costing only €5. The place is better suited to adults than children. There's a fantastic breakfast buffet, lunchtime snacks near the pool, and a fish restaurant and pizzeria in the evenings. Not lacking anything.

The resort is beautiful, but we arrived yesterday and are paying almost 900€ a night for a small suite plus an extra room for our children. There was no minibar, just a fridge, and no bottled water. The cold water in the bathroom is too warm to drink. At this morning's breakfast buffet, the coffee machine seemed like one from a hospital, and there was no natural juice. When we went to get pool towels at 11, they'd run out 🙄, and there were no pool chairs available. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you're expecting five star service. If you're looking for a hotel on the beach, it's fine.

The staff were warm and attentive, and the hotel restaurants served tasty food quickly. The room was cleaned every day, but we only got one complimentary bottle of water and had to buy more ourselves. Breakfast never changed, and there was a queue for tea or coffee. The bathroom and toilet felt cramped and dated. Shower water spilled onto the toilet area, just a step away, and its temperature kept shifting depending on how we held the showerhead. There was also a locked door inside our room, and not knowing what was behind it made us uneasy. We were told at booking that checkout was at 12:00, but at 11:00 we got a call telling us to leave, which created an unnecessary rush. We stayed from August 31 to September 4, and we wouldn't rate the hotel as five-star.
