Tasmania Village

My room was simple, but roomy, clean and tidy, with everything I needed and a balcony looking out to sea. I loved it. The owners were so friendly, polite and helpful, and the whole layout of the hotel is lovely. The walk down to the pool and snack bar is steep, but once you're there, the sea and mountain views are gorgeous by day and at night. It's peaceful, the pool is cool and refreshing, and there's a nice breeze from the sea. I could have stayed there, I loved it. It's about a 20-minute walk into town or a five-minute taxi ride for €8. People are friendly and happy, and the town has great restaurants, cocktail bars and all sorts of shops at reasonable prices. The scenery is beautiful if you walk to town or the beach, and there are lots of activities and attractions to see. I'll definitely come back and stay here again, and try the things I didn't get around to this time.

The owners were so lovely and did everything they could for us. The pool is great for kids, and the pool bar and grill serves all day. Rooms are basic, but clean. Ask about air conditioning before you arrive, especially if you'll be getting in late, since it isn't connected automatically. A taxi into Elounda costs just €8, and you can walk there too. Elounda itself is a fantastic place to visit.

We keep coming back to these apartments because we love them. The family is caring and supportive, looks after whatever you need, and makes you feel like one of their own. When we visit Crete, we don't want to stay anywhere else. We've noticed plenty of other returning guests too.

You get good value here, since the price is low for this area. It's traditional, family-run Greek accommodation, and the hillside setting gives you great views. Our studio had two single beds. The kitchen was cramped and only had basic equipment, but it was fine for simple breakfasts. Elounda is an easy 25-minute walk along a flat coastal road. Plaka takes about 40 minutes on foot, but most of the way has no pavement, so I wouldn't suggest walking it at night. There's a bus stop outside, with buses to Plaka, Elounda and Agios Nikolaos every two hours until around 7pm. The property sits on a steep hillside, so keep the steps and slope in mind, as is common in Greece. A few things to know: Wi-Fi only works at the pool bar, not in the apartments. Air conditioning costs an extra €10 per night, and there's also a charge for the room safe. Our apartment had high windows without blinds, so the eye masks we brought were necessary for sleeping. A development next door plays loud music until about 11pm on two or three nights a week. Rooms are serviced every three or four days, with bins emptied and sheets and towels changed.
