Ostria Apartments

We came as a group of eight for ten days in September, and the experience left us with plenty to complain about. The pool itself was lovely, but the slide wasn’t open, which really disappointed the kids. When we asked, nobody seemed to know why. The rooms were clean but very dated, and the bathrooms needed a deeper clean. We wouldn’t return, and didn’t feel it was worth the price, though Sidari itself was lovely. Getting around on foot was another issue. From earlier reviews we expected the strip to be a ten minute walk, but it took about twenty minutes. The roads were poorly lit and had few pavements, which felt dangerous with children. We had to leave our room by 10 even though our checkout was scheduled for late afternoon. We asked to keep one room until then and were told the room was available, but we were still charged. After what happened with the power, we thought they might cover it. A storm a few days into the stay caused a power cut. Since we were self catering, all our food was in the fridge. We thought there might be backup generators, but there weren’t, and we went nearly 36 hours without electricity. Nobody offered water or candles, checked on us, or kept us updated. We had to buy candles and supplies ourselves, and shared some with other guests, including an elderly couple. We were lucky our toilet still flushed; some guests weren’t. We were just left in the dark. Staff mentioned losing ice cream when it melted, but didn’t offer any to the children. When we arrived just after midnight, the local area was closed. We weren’t too worried at first, thinking there might be a couple of complimentary bottles of water, but there weren’t any. No staff were there to welcome us or show us to our apartments. Another couple had the same problem and raised it, but were told it wasn’t their problem and they didn’t know what time guests would arrive. They focused on why they should provide water instead of addressing the bigger issue.
