Iris Apartments

It was an average stay. The flat is quiet and very close to the beach and a great taverna. Cleaning was acceptable, though I wouldn’t call it spotless. The furniture and general condition are dated, but we only used the place to sleep and didn’t need more. The bathroom has an open shower, which would be fine if the water drained better. We saw a cockroach and a mantis inside, likely because the surroundings are wild. Still, I’d fill some gaps in the walls and under the doors to help keep them out.

We had to leave at 11 pm and find an open hotel in the tiny town. Luckily, we found one. I’d give this place zero stars if I could. Around 10 minutes after arriving, we saw the first cockroach dart under the bed. We told the owner, who never answered. At 8 pm we bought anti-cockroach spray at the supermarket, thinking there was only one bug. Back at the apartment, we spotted another in the bathroom, then kept finding more every five minutes. After killing ten, and seeing one crawling on the door, we packed up and left. We couldn’t stay overnight, both because of the cockroaches we’d killed and the spray’s fumes. The owner still hadn’t replied to any messages or calls by then. We told him the infestation meant we wanted a full refund, since we hadn’t stayed at all, but he refused and wouldn’t acknowledge the problem. Later, we went back and saw he’d already rented the apartment to someone else, even though our booking hadn’t officially ended. That was outrageous and unacceptable. Booking.com saw our photos and acknowledged the complaint, but apparently couldn’t do anything if the owner refused the refund. It’s no protection in a situation like this. This place is terribly managed, and I wouldn’t stay there.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, and the place was very clean.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We’d read some of the reviews and I was skeptical, but the owner welcomed us, showed us around, and checked that everything was okay. We stayed for a week and found it clean and very good value for the price. The beach is a two-minute walk away, and the owner gave everything a thorough clean and brought fresh towels. We didn’t see a single bug. The balcony was a little dusty and could have used a clean, but everything else was perfect. I really can’t understand the negative reviews.
