Hotel Steni

We’ve stayed here several times, and the location and front yard are still lovely. It’s a little away from the busy town centre, with great views; you can sit outside, listen to nature and have coffee or a drink, even if you’re not staying at the hotel. Breakfast tastes good, though the selection is limited and the coffee could be better. This visit, the room was a letdown. We paid 85 euros a night for a summer break, which felt far too much for what it offered. The fridge was empty and didn’t work, so there was no cold water on a summer day. The bathroom was so cramped that using the toilet meant practically hugging the toilet paper stand. A lamp was broken and hanging, the bathroom towel hanger was broken too, and the hair dryer was burnt. It’s a pity customers are treated this way. I took photos of everything, but won’t upload them. I hope the managers reconsider their policy and provide better service next time.

The garden and courtyard have a lovely view over the scenic village and a rocky feature that looks a bit like the Rock of Gibraltar. The staff, especially Vangellis and Lena, were keen to make sure we were happy. A family of cute Kitty Kats greets you when you arrive, too. We had a great experience at this hotel.

We stayed in the more expensive room at the back, which looked onto a school courtyard rather than the mountain view. The bed was so large that opening the door almost meant falling onto it. The lighting was quite dim, not much use for putting on makeup, though the room was clean and warm at night. The hotel sits high on a cliff, with an incredible view of the mountain across and a stream below. There’s also a lovely courtyard where you can sit for coffee, drinks or a bite to eat. Room prices seem to reflect the decor rather than the view.

You can enjoy the garden even without staying overnight, and I’d recommend stopping for homemade desserts or a glass of wine. We tried all three tavernas in Steni, and the best food we found was at Steni Hotel. The country pizza is especially worth trying. There’s easy parking, too. It’s a peaceful spot with lovely scenery, and a nice base for visiting both the mountains and the beaches. The rooms are clean and the courtyard is magnificent. This family business is run efficiently, with each family member handling a particular task. Great job, Steni Hotel, please keep up the quality.
