Ilio Mare Resort Hotel

It's near the beach, quiet, and the breakfast is good. The staff are friendly too. But getting to the bazaar means going 17 km to Thassos, and there's nothing to see nearby, so I wouldn't recommend it. We booked a suite, yet the TV was small and the air conditioning was set to run by the hour, switching off and back on automatically. The rooms were poorly maintained and the bathrooms old. For a place rated five stars, it just wasn't comfortable or up to that standard.

We left grateful that we got out unharmed, that we didn't lose our lives. The room didn't match the photos at all: old furniture, a rusty fridge, no kettle, and broken air conditioning. The shower cabin came off its rail without warning and shattered while we were inside, and we barely got out safely. We called reception urgently, but no one came to help right away. The hotel didn't apologize or ask how we were, even the next day while we were still picking glass splinters from our skin. Only Mr. Latif came later to clean the room, and we're thankful to him for that. The food had very little variety. The restaurant was outdated, with ridiculously covered, uncomfortable old chairs. The pool was degraded and had too few sunbeds, and wasps made eating almost impossible. Check-in was shocking too: no welcome, no information or introduction to the facilities, just a room card handed over as if that was enough. How did this get five stars? The stay was deeply disappointing and unsafe. We'll never return or recommend this place.

The internet kept cutting out, which shouldn't happen in a five-star complex, and the building stock is dilapidated. The rooms felt small for five-star accommodation and didn't have enough accessories. The beds weren't luxurious, and the restaurant food lacked variety, with no typical Greek dishes such as grilled octopus or squid. Breakfast juice wasn't natural. Larger companies can't all be on the same level, some got this extra!

The beach is lovely and perfect for kids, but everything else looked like 1990. The pool is large, though it wasn't well maintained, and the hotel itself is very old and in bad shape. Furniture was old and rusty, the bathroom moldy and still dirty, and the walls and floor tiles were cracked. Breakfast was good, but dinner had very few options and, to me, wasn't very kid friendly. When I complained about the room, the manager was rude and told me to relax. He said he knew everything was old, but a new five-star hotel costs 2000 euro a night and I should stop complaining, then walked away. This may have been five stars when it first opened a looong time ago. I definitely won't come back. The beach gets the one star.
