Joanna's Stone Villas

The room smelled so bad from the damp stone houses that we couldn’t stand being inside for 10 minutes. The toilets need renovating, the sheets weren’t clean, and the white towels had black spots. There was a dog on the second floor that wouldn’t stop, and the taxi was late. We’d ordered a car seat for my 10-month-old baby, but the one they brought was nasty and very used. The baby crib and high chair were also very old and used. We ended up not sleeping there and changed hotels. After many emails, they neither refunded the money we’d already paid nor even apologized. We’ve stayed at other hotels on the island, and Lithies farm is a great option, as are Vasilikos hotels.

In the middle of July, we weren’t allowed to use the AC even though it was so hot. The owner yelled at us and kept telling us to leave it off. The water and electricity weren’t working properly either. The hosts were controlling and kept saying they were watching us on camera. It was creepy. I’ve never had an experience like this before and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Please be careful!

Joanna and her family take real pride in their hospitality and gave us excellent recommendations for things to do on Zakynthos. These villas are in a peaceful, beautiful part of the island, with splendid views and a central position near Gerakas, Banana, and St. Nick beaches. Two beaches are a 10-minute walk away, though I’d recommend hiring a car to see the island properly if you’re staying more than 1 week. The villas are extremely spacious, very well built, spotlessly clean, and well stocked. Superb value. Book here.

Joanna is an extremely welcoming host, and the place is peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by olive trees. Her daughter’s restaurant is within walking distance through the olive trees, and the prices are very reasonable.
