Amarilia Hotel

The lobby looks pretty upscale for the price, with lots of seating and a bar serving coffee and drinks. We got good value by booking several months ahead, and I’d stay here again. The location is excellent, just a block from the beach and close to the restaurants and shops in Voula and Vouliagmeni. Breakfast had a good selection and tasted great, especially the homemade spanakopita and tiropita pastries. The bar snacks were tasty too. There’s a nice pool, though nearby tall buildings mean you won’t get sun all day unless you move the chairs. I’d rather go to the beach, which is just down the street. I stayed for a few days before my wedding. The rooms are fairly small, particularly the bathrooms, but it was a very pleasant stay and great value for the money.

The ants kept coming back, even after the maids supposedly cleaned the room. We were assured it wouldn’t happen again, but on the third night they returned in even greater numbers. We complained to the night employee, who told us to bring it up with the morning shift. We had already spent a stressful night killing ants with soapy water and waiting until 4 a.m. before asking to change rooms. We were told that if we moved for the night, we’d have to switch rooms again in the morning because only one room was available that night. Since it was so late, we stayed put. The next morning, we showed the morning employee videos of ants crawling along the floor lining and around the bathroom drain near the toilet and shower. He asked us to text the videos so management could see them and consider compensation. We emailed them instead because the files were large and email felt like a more formal way to contact the hotel. After a few days, there was still no reply. We’ve ended up posting the videos here because management didn’t seem to care enough to deal with a customer’s problem. When we asked the night employee for an electronic receipt before leaving the next morning, he complained that he couldn’t email it and suggested printing it. The service was poor, and our room wasn’t clean when we arrived. Caveat Emptor, customer beware.

There are several very good restaurants along the nearby beachfront. The hotel itself is nice and less than 100 meters from the beach.

We stayed one night before our flight, and being so close to the beach and a few restaurants made it a good choice for a short stop. The facilities were okay. The receptionists were alright and helpfully arranged a taxi for the morning. Pool access was more restrictive than we expected. We arrived at 5:30, an hour before the 6:30 closing time, but staff were already packing up and wouldn’t let us use it.
