The location is excellent, but that’s about the only good thing here. The rooms are cramped and overpriced. My window faced the public social area, where people chatted and gathered throughout the day and night, so there was no escaping the noise. Service was okay. I think nearby hotels offer better value.
I’d suggest booking through a third-party provider instead of directly with the hotel. A severe snowstorm canceled my flight, so I had to cancel my stay. I’d booked less than two weeks ahead, but the hotel offered only a short-dated credit, and only on the condition that they could resell the room. The airline and all the other hotels refunded me in full, including places I’d booked through a third party. They understood that weather was beyond the customer’s control.
I knew the room was supposed to be small when I booked, so I feel partly responsible, but it was way smaller than I expected. My boyfriend and I could barely move around at the same time. The bathroom was so cramped I had to sit sideways on the toilet, and its door wouldn’t close or lock. There was hardly any room for our bags or clothes. The walls were paper thin. I could hear the neighbors talking, watching TV, and snoring, so I needed earplugs to sleep, especially because of the snoring. The ceiling fan only worked with the lights on, which made it really hot at night. They gave us another fan, but it was irritating because the room was already so tight. I felt very uncomfortable without enough privacy, space, or comfort. I wish I’d paid more for a better hotel. Even a hostel might have been better :(
The courtyard is wonderful, with a view of Fuego erupting, and the spacious rooms have a romantic, old-fashioned style. You can walk to everything in Antigua from here. We could hear through the walls facing the courtyard, but it was mostly quiet after 9 PM.
Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived and still needed cleaning. The front desk was kind about it and offered us breakfast for free. The room itself was basic but comfortable. No AC 😬 Still, it was a good stay overall.
