Hotel Las Farolas

There’s a lot of history here, but upkeep seems poor. My room wasn’t clean at all. Hair was in the corners and even on my bedsheet, which was also broken and dirty. If hygiene matters to you, don’t stay here.

The setting is quieter than the busy part of town, though still walkable, and that worked well for us. We found the floors so clean we could go barefoot in our room. Inside, the whole place feels like a tropical garden, and the online pictures really don’t show it properly. The staff were all friendly, and breakfast was included and amazing, with lots of choices, coffee service, little cookies to have with it, and great juice. There’s a playground right outside the eating area, so we’d sit there and let the kids play while we waited for our food. I’d highly recommend it. Just know there’s no AC. We didn’t need it if we left the windows open, but we were a bit wary of bugs, as we are anywhere. There are no screens, though pulling a thin curtain closed sometimes seemed to keep them out.

In a central part of Antigua, the hotel has a lovely large garden with a few benches, and there’s filtered water. The room felt old and very dated. The bathroom needs a redo: the shower was gross, and the tiles were stained and dirty. Some basics were missing too, like outlets beside the bed. The outlets were underneath the cabinet instead.

The courtyard gives this beautiful hotel a magical feel, and the staff are amazing.
