We weren't hotel guests, but stopped by to ask about tours. Humberto was wonderful and helped arrange our trip to Tikal and the ride to Flores afterward. Later in our trip he also helped with transportation, and was kind and quick to respond.

The place is relaxed and dependable, and the beds were comfortable with clean rooms. Humberto was easygoing and helpful, and explained how to get to Flores and Tikal.

The location made getting around simple: shuttles and colectivos stop right there, and El Remate's only ATM is just across the street. The laundry shop is a five-minute walk, as are several good cafes and restaurants, including Cahui, La Puerto, Casa de Don David, and Doña Mari. Having visited both El Remate and Flores, I'm glad I chose the quieter side of Lake Petén, with lovely sunsets, great restaurants, and easier access to Tikal and Yaxha. I loved the room and wished I'd booked for weeks. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, and had an amazing lake view, especially at sunrise and sunset, when I could see lots of birds, including green parakeets and red-lored parrots. There were mosquito nets, though I didn't see a single mosquito during my three-night stay. The AC was quiet and worked perfectly, and the Wi-Fi was good enough for a work video call. My balcony had a table, chairs, and a hammock, and there was a shared kitchen. Umberto was an amazing, kind host who helped me throughout my stay. When I had trouble getting cash from the ATM, he even offered to lend me money, which I really appreciated in a stressful moment. He also arranged my tours to Yaxha and Tikal. Highly recommended!

I really loved staying here during my medical trip, more than I expected to. The hosts were so kind and made us breakfast every morning before our long days at the clinic. The view was amazing, with the lake, a diving board, and beautiful sunsets. The rooms and the rest of the place were decorated beautifully, and it felt very secure behind tall gates and locks. Every room had AC, fans, a shower, and a toilet. It stayed pretty hot, so clothes hung outside took a while to dry, and there were bugs. That's typical for this part of Guatemala, though. I'd recommend it.
