Hotel San Miguel

1. The hotel isn't on Flores Island, despite what you might think. It's a 40-minute drive away. 2. There isn't on-site parking unless you're willing to park on the street. 3. The room won't be ready when you arrive. 4. Don't expect pleasant service. We were met with rudeness.

A decent place overall for the price, and I'd stay here again if I needed to. The rooms are spacious, the views are great, and the location is good. There's a local restaurant, Wi-Fi, morning coffee, helpful staff, and it's easy to transfer to Flores Island. I never got hot water, drinking water isn't provided for guests, and they need to do a better job controlling mosquitoes.

There was no hot water, and I wasn't convinced the sheets had been changed because they didn't look clean. I booked hoping for a decent night's sleep, but people were talking outside my door early in the morning, then partying nearby all night.

I loved spending the week here through my language school. The family made us feel welcome, and the food was amazing, though the restaurant happened to be closed while I was there. The balcony hammocks and the view were a highlight. For a quieter, more authentic stay, I recommend San Miguel. There are jungle trails for walking or running, monkeys, a beach, el mirador and a museum. You can also swim from the pier in front of the hostal. Absolutely loved the place!
