Conquistador Hotel Guatemala

The pool area was nice, and breakfast was a simple buffet but very good. Staff were pleasant, and the location seems to be up and coming. I was robbed outside the hotel, which wasn’t their fault, and they handled things well once I was safely back inside. The rooms felt more like a basic US motel than a hotel, with rock-hard beds and plain bathrooms. The AC worked really well, but the gym smelled of black mold and looked like it hadn’t changed since 1980, equipment included. Fine for one day, but I wouldn’t stay longer.

During my March 2024 visit, construction was going on, so things were a bit messy, though the stay was still really nice. I had a large room with strong AC, a good view, and a clean bathroom with hot water. The staff were patient and kind when I tried to communicate without speaking Spanish. They spoke pretty good English, so it wasn’t much of a problem. The location was decent for the zone, though not amazing.

My work booked me a night here. The room on an upper floor was very nice, with a great view and a comfortable bed, but the experience was absolutely horrendous. When I tried to shower before bed, there was no hot water. I called reception twice; they sent a handyman, who confirmed the problem, but nothing changed. On another call, reception said there was no hot water because I was on the top floor. I hadn’t chosen that room, they had assigned it to me. When I asked to move to a room with hot water, they said none were available. If you’re travelling for work, think twice.

I needed to be near the office of migration. The room was large, the bathroom a good size, though the king bed was too soft. Lunch was cafeteria-style, very good, generous, and affordable at Q40, and breakfast was a similarly affordable buffet in the dining room. The main issue was exhaust from the construction out front getting into the hall on the 5th floor.
