Hotel San Carlos

After long business days, we liked having a restaurant with simple, good options and a bar for a drink. The staff were excellent, the front gate felt secure, reception arranged taxis through trusted partners, and housekeeping paid close attention to detail. We've stayed three times, and each visit has been excellent. Our room was spotless and quiet, with cotton linens, secure surroundings, consistent air conditioning, and mattresses that might be better than the ones at home. Hotel San Carlos was a refuge for us in Guatemala City.

Dinner was excellent, and the room was quiet and spacious. We left the next morning before breakfast service began to rejoin our cruise, so I can't comment on breakfast. The staff were patient with my very limited Spanish, and I enjoyed the delicious food and the hotel's character. Its gorgeous back courtyard made the place much more interesting than the usual bland airport hotel.

The hotel feels cozy and homey, with friendly staff. Great restaurants are an easy walk away, too.

The breakfast buffet was very good, and the hotel also has its own restaurant. We found at least three other good places to eat within a five-minute walk. We stayed two nights at the end of our Guatemala trip to be near the airport, and found the hotel clean, comfortable, and quiet, with very helpful staff.
