The free breakfast was such a winner, buffet style and as much as you like, with fresh pancakes, fruit, sausages, eggs, cereal, tea and coffee. The kitchen was also well stocked, with lots of dishes and utensils and two big fridge freezers. Bathrooms were good and the showers had hot water. It’s a small, peaceful hostel. The people I met were great to socialize with, but while I was there it wasn’t a party place, and the hostel didn’t organize events. There are games available, though. The pod-style bunks were comfortable, with extra blankets if needed, and free towels. You can also borrow a hair dryer, which was great. Private rooms looked clean and spacious, but they open directly onto the shared areas and reception, so noise might be an issue if things get busy. They do observe quiet hours from 11 PM to 6 AM. Lots of people use it as a stopover before a flight, and it’s also a good base for exploring the city. I enjoyed my stay at Tequila Sunrise.

The front desk staff were kind, and it’s in a good spot for walking around. I used a capsule room for one night before heading to my next destination. The bed was comfortable, but the capsule felt too short to me, and I didn’t find the place very clean or hospitable. It also got stuffy inside, even with the fan on and the door open. Most of the time it was colder outside than in the room.

I loved my stay in Guatemala City, my first stop in Guatemala. The place felt safe, and it was easy to get an Uber or walk to the main street and take a bus to the city center for 1 quetzal, if I remember right. The receptionists were friendly and helpful, and I met nice people. It wasn’t very busy while I was there. The kitchen was big and well equipped, with plenty of room to eat, work, or relax, plus a terrace upstairs. I stayed in a dorm in a long room of pod-style beds. There wasn’t much space for bags, and the lockers under the beds only fit small bags. Still, there were lots of windows, and the beds were comfortable, with lights, phone plugs, and curtains. The toilet and shower were just outside, and the hot water was great. The shower gel and shampoo smelled really nice. I was there in September 2025. I can’t believe I missed this review on booking. The included buffet breakfast deserves a mention: lots of choices, including pancakes, milk, yogurt, cereal, fruit, and, of course, coffee.

Just one night as a stopover, but I really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and helpful, everything was super clean, and the breakfast was great. Beds were comfortable and private, and it was easy to find food nearby. I felt safe walking around.

I came back and was glad to find it’s still just as good as a few years ago. The beds are so comfortable you don’t want to get up, and the place is clean, with a cool neighborhood, a full kitchen, rooftop views, free breakfast, and shuttles to Atitlan and other spots. The service is great too. The only things I could complain about were the water and the open-air layout. They’ve addressed the water with purified water all around, and the cozy, warm beds help with the open-air feel. I’m glad they’ve kept things the same, aside from changing the paintings on the wall. Great job!
